Two Deaths Reported, Three Dozen Sickened in U.S.
Immediate Recall for Liverwurst, Ham, and Other Products
Amidst an outbreak of listeria that has claimed the lives of two individuals and infected approximately three dozen others in the United States, Boars Head Provisions Co. Inc. has issued a comprehensive recall for all liverwurst products manufactured at its Jarratt, Virginia establishment since February 29, 2023.
In a separate incident, Daniele International LLC, a Mapleville, Rhode Island establishment, has recalled around 69,255 pounds of ready-to-eat (RTE) salami products due to potential listeria contamination.
The latest recall from Boars Head encompasses over 207,000 pounds of deli meat, including liverwurst and ham. Affected products bear a sell-by date of August 10 and include bologna, garlic bologna, and beef bologna.
Immediate Action Urged
Health authorities urge consumers to discard or return any affected products immediately. Listeria can cause severe symptoms, particularly in vulnerable populations such as the elderly, pregnant women, and individuals with weakened immune systems. Symptoms may include fever, muscle aches, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea.
